Blame it on the balayage!

If you’ve been in a salon for at least 5 minutes, I’m sure you’ve heard the term ‘balayage’ used. For the uninitiated, what does this actually mean? Well, the word balayage is actually French, translating to ‘sweep’ or ‘sweeping’. In hairdresser’s terms, balayage is a technique used to create a soft gradient of colour through the hair, getting lighter towards the tips. A colourist will hand paint these highlights on, creating a subtle and natural sunkissed look.

Why consider a balayage over flat colour? Well firstly, the difference in colour a balayage adds gives the hair more depth, the use of light and shade creates dimension. Another reason is because of it’s easy maintenance. As opposed to more traditional hair colouring techniques that require frequent touchups, the natural look of a balayage allows it to look flawless at any stage - even after your hair has grown out a bit. This makes it loved by many women who want to experiment with variation of tone without the constant need for touch-ups.
